TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE I - WEEK 9

 TEACHING PRACTICE PHASE I

29/09/2025- 04/10/2025

Week 9

INTRODUCTION

The ninth week of my teaching practice marked another important step in my journey as a trainee teacher. By this stage, I had become more confident in classroom management and in applying different teaching strategies suited to the needs of the learners. This week provided me with opportunities to refine my lesson delivery, integrate innovative methods, and further strengthen the teacher–student relationship. It also helped me reflect on my progress so far, recognize areas for improvement, and set new goals for the coming phase. Overall, the week was a blend of meaningful experiences, challenges, and valuable learnings that contributed to my professional growth as a future teacher.

CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

During the ninth week of my teaching practice, I had the opportunity to handle a variety of topics in both Physics and Chemistry across classes 8B and 9A. Each period helped me strengthen my teaching skills, improve student engagement, and experiment with suitable teaching aids and activities to make the lessons more effective.

Monday (29/09/2025) (5th period – Class 8B, Physics):

I dealt with the topic Pressure Balance. The session focused on explaining how pressure is distributed and maintained in fluids. I made use of simple examples and demonstrations to make the concept relatable. Students actively participated by sharing real-life situations where pressure balance plays a role, which made the class interactive.

Monday (29/09/2025) (6th period – Class 9A, Physics):

I introduced the Universal Law of Gravitation. The lesson explained Newton’s concept of gravitational force and how it operates between any two bodies in the universe. Using diagrams and problem-solving activities, I helped the students understand the mathematical expression of the law. The curiosity of students was evident as they raised thoughtful questions about planetary motion and everyday applications. An achievement test was also conducted during the 6th period on the topic Periodic Table and Chemical Bonding

Friday (03/10/2025) (1st period – Class 9A, Chemistry):

The topic was Chemical Formula of Salts. I guided the students in writing formulas based on valency rules and gave practice problems to ensure conceptual clarity. I also encouraged peer learning by allowing students to solve examples on the blackboard, which boosted their confidence.

Saturday (04/10/2025)  (1st period – Class 9A, Physics):

I taught Acceleration due to Gravity. The focus was on explaining how gravitational acceleration acts uniformly on all objects irrespective of their mass. I used suitable examples, including free-fall situations, to simplify the concept. Problem-solving exercises helped students apply the formula in numerical contexts. A diagnostic test was also administered during the 6th period on the topic Element Families.

Overall, the ninth week was academically enriching as I could teach fundamental concepts that form the base for higher learning. The interactions with students improved their interest in Physics and Chemistry, while also giving me valuable teaching experience and confidence.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Monday – Little Kites Camp:

On Monday, I had the chance to witness and support the Little Kites Camp, an ICT-based initiative aimed at enhancing students’ digital skills. The camp provided training in basic computer operations, internet usage, and safe digital practices. It was an engaging experience as students showed great enthusiasm in learning new technologies, and it highlighted the importance of integrating digital literacy into school life.

Friday – Gandhi Quiz & SAY Exam Duty:

As part of the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, a Gandhi Quiz competition was organized on Friday. Students actively participated, showcasing their knowledge about Gandhiji’s life, principles, and contributions to the freedom struggle. The event was both informative and inspiring. In addition, I was assigned SAY (Save A Year) exam duty, which gave me a practical experience in invigilation responsibilities and maintaining discipline during examinations.

Saturday – Conscientization Programme:

On Saturday, I took part in the Conscientization programme, which aimed at creating awareness among students about relevant waste management. Through interactive sessions and discussions, students were encouraged to think critically about their role in society. This activity provided a meaningful platform for promoting values, awareness, and social responsibility.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Monday – Iron Tablet Distribution:

As part of the school’s health and wellness programme, Iron tablets were distributed to students on Monday. This initiative helped spread awareness about the importance of nutrition and health in preventing anaemia, especially among adolescents. It also showed how schools play an important role in supporting the physical well-being of students.

Friday – Mid-day Meal Programme:

On Friday, I assisted in the Mid-day Meal scheme, which ensures that students receive a nutritious meal during school hours. Being part of this activity made me realize the importance of such initiatives in improving students’ health, reducing classroom hunger, and promoting better concentration in academics.

This week strengthened my perspective on the multifaceted role of a teacher. I understood that teaching not only involves imparting subject knowledge but also guiding, supporting, and shaping students as responsible citizens. The blend of classroom experiences and participation in school programmes made this week a valuable step in my journey of becoming a professional teacher. The co-curricular programmes of the week, such as the Little Kites Camp, Gandhi Quiz, SAY exam duty, and the Conscientization programme, gave me exposure to diverse dimensions of school life. These activities made me realize that learning is not confined to textbooks alone, but also involves developing digital skills, historical awareness, critical thinking, and social responsibility among students.Taking part in extra-curricular responsibilities like the iron tablet distribution and the mid-day meal scheme gave me a deeper understanding of how schools contribute to the overall well-being of students. These initiatives taught me the importance of addressing health and nutrition alongside academics, ensuring a more balanced and supportive educational environment.

CONCLUSION

The ninth week of my teaching practice was an enriching experience that combined classroom teaching with a variety of school activities. Through handling lessons in Physics and Chemistry, I was able to improve my confidence in lesson delivery, practice different methods of explanation, and ensure active student participation. Each class helped me refine my teaching strategies and build a stronger rapport with the learners.
