INTRODUCTION

The initial phase of my teaching practice, which took place from July 15 to July 18, 2025, was marked by a combination of nervousness and excitement. Stepping into a real classroom for the first time naturally brought a sense of apprehension, as I was unsure how the students would respond and whether I would be able to manage the class effectively. However, as the days progressed, my anxiety gradually turned into confidence. The supportive atmosphere, active participation of the students, and encouragement from my mentors made the experience truly enriching. What started with hesitation ended up being a beautiful and engaging journey that helped me grow both personally and professionally.

CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

This week, I handled a total of five periods of classes. Each session gave me valuable experience in planning lessons, managing the classroom, and engaging with students. Through these classes, I was able to build my confidence, experiment with different teaching methods, and understand the learning needs of my students better.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

18/07/2025

I actively took part in the Shraddha class, a special initiative designed to support students of 8th and 9th grades who face difficulties in learning at the expected pace, especially in Mathematics. During these sessions, I provided additional guidance and individual attention to help them grasp basic concepts and improve their problem-solving skills. Besides Mathematics, the Shraddha class also aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of English, Malayalam, and Hindi, ensuring they receive well-rounded academic support. This experience not only allowed me to address their subject-specific challenges but also helped me develop my skills in handling diverse learning needs within the classroom.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

17/07/2025

This week, I had the opportunity to be part of two significant activities at school. On Thursday, I took on the role of an examiner for the “Vaghmayam Bhasha Prathibha Exam,” a Malayalam language proficiency test organized in government high schools throughout Kerala under the Vidyarangam Kala Sahitya Vedi initiative. This exam aims to identify and encourage students with a talent for the Malayalam language and literature. Serving as an examiner gave me valuable exposure to the assessment process and allowed me to interact with students beyond my regular classroom teaching. It was a rewarding experience to witness students showcase their language skills and creativity through this special program.

On the same day, I also got the chance to accompany the students for the inauguration ceremony of the new hardware support system in the school’s VHSE (Vocational Higher Secondary) section. The event was made even more special by the presence of Dr. G.R. Anil, the Honorable Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Government of Kerala, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Attending this program allowed me to witness how vocational education is being strengthened with modern facilities, providing students with hands-on training and better career opportunities.

Being part of both the Vaghmayam Bhasha Prathibha Exam and this inauguration on the same day was truly enriching, as it broadened my understanding of how schools nurture both academic excellence and practical skills in students.

CONCLUSION

The first week of my teaching practice was a blend of eagerness and nervousness as I stepped into a new environment with fresh responsibilities. Despite the initial tension, I now feel motivated and optimistic about the upcoming weeks, as I believe they hold plenty of opportunities for me to refine my teaching skills and grow as an educator.

One of the most encouraging aspects of this week was the students’ enthusiastic and sincere participation in all the activities. Whether it was lessons supported by ICT tools, interactive discussions, or practical, hands-on exercises, the students showed genuine interest and involvement. Their positive response and active engagement in the classroom not only boosted my confidence but also made each session lively and meaningful. The support and curiosity shown by the students turned my first week into an enriching learning experience, inspiring me to plan and deliver even better lessons in the days ahead.
